1.
This late in the game and I await my fate. I stated my name without a hope in the world. Though a thousand lands without lightning fade, I stated my name to a blank face. Uncovering lines that I hid before, undying mind and wide open door. I played the game, there’s not much left to loan. This late in the game and thats a fool’s goal. I told you my name, and not one reply. I stayed up late - crossing blades - now send my letter, what for?
2.
Allegory simplified Something you could miss. I am born into the night, given little wits Underneath the velvet light Softer than a throne Throw it up and watch it fall Whatchu coulda known Underneath a candlelight Given little hope Even in the hardest of hearts Something you could know Wrap ‘em up in little lies And burn ‘em till they’re gone Underneath that candlelight Watch ‘em till they grow Covered in the sand of time We could have a ball we could have a brawl Someone who could last Someone who can laugh Someone you could love ‘N Someone you could ha-a-a-ave Your hide, it won’t protect you from the demons inside Your hide, it won’t protect you from the sun that’s so high (We go, we take to the breeze And we go as we please.) I am born into the night Diamonds in disguise Diamonds in the sky Covered in the sand of time We could have a ball We could have a brawl Underneath a candle light How could this have grown? How could this have grown? Someone who could last Someone who can laugh Someone you could love ‘N Someone you could ha-a-a-ave Your hide, it won’t protect you from the demons inside

Take a ride on rolling hills, hot and cold, alone, and I am having chills. Take a ride on rolling waves dead alive, a paradise, a lonely grave Take a swing in the canopy night and day, this is benign reality dead alive, a paradise, a lonely grave. The stars lay claim to those below no up, no down, a test of what you know The hottest, the meanest, the hot mean bean a heavy, a light, a taste of what you’ve seen Creatures of night, brought to light predator eyes, a fear you can’t deny predator eyes, a fear you can’t deny a fear you can’t deny.

No Return 03:22
I don’t do nothin’ for no return, I said out loud - I saw it burn It’s a warning sign from a holy ghost I’m a villain now and I’m wanted most I don't do nothin’ for no return, but I took a bite to feel the burn how can I decide how a story goes when I wasn’t there - grow your own damn bones And all this time, and all those looks, with your neon signs but you never got booked Here’s all the lines in my coffer at your service in this final offer. In the middle I don’t do nothin’ for no return and if you go it all alone I know it’s quieter It’s a cold wind blows and a new world hangs I am a villain now though I have not changed I don't do nothin’ for no return, it’s adding up albeit louder There’s a warning coursing through my veins, and I’m not the same And all this time, and all those looks, with your neon signs but you never got booked Here’s all the power I can muster at your service, in this final hour In the middle - this all will crumble

Crown Jewel 04:29
My laws don’t work out here where the rocks are red and the sky is clear I wait for the coming storm Gathered around me are the eagles and the crows oh and they know we all know, we all know that it won’t be long On my honor it don’t matter promises I keep got my hands tied head low common honey let me go you know it’s too late, I hope you know it’s too late.
6.
Admit Defeat 02:58
Symbol, I chase your symbol symbol, away from here Symbol, I chase your symbol symbol, away from here Well it’s tight for two in one level livin’ The age of optimist has peaked Solemnity the sun sets easy That’s one way to cross a creek. So lie to me. We’re trading kitsch for class in one-level-living The age of realism is on repeat Tremble the pebbles tremble the rapids rumble admit defeat and lie to me
7.
Lately, I know that you’ve been hauntin’ I know ‘cause I’ve been hauntin’ - yes I’ve been hauntin’ too Frankly, I don’t know why we’re hiding You’re someone I confide in, Yes I confide in you I see, watch me behave so bravely, Step right out of the hazy I am real for you Delayedly, I hesitate sweet baby --- take to hauntin maybe and We’ll be talking talking soon We flit, we float This dance is taking hold I heave a sigh and say goodnight I heave a sigh and say goodnight I heave a sigh and say goodnight I heave a sigh and say goodnight ~ I heave a sigh ~ I say goodnight Tell me, if I’m on your A-team will it just be you and me? Or are there other hauntings too? Well… And tell me, if your acting bravely can you carry my crazy, and take me to the moon? Firstly, I enjoy your company I see you want some clarity but what’s that attitude? Routinely, I am banking lonely, I only measure slowly and I don’t deal in absolutes. We flit, we float This dance is taking hold I heave a sigh and say goodnight I heave a sigh and say goodnight I heave a sigh and say goodnight I heave a sigh and say goodnight ~ I say goodnight ~ I heave a sigh

about

Keyes’ debut album,‘The Age of Realism’ was born out of the fields and forests of rural Wisconsin and took on its true form within the sunlit walls of his urban Minneapolis bedroom. Released independently in May of 2020, ‘The Age of Realism’, places concepts of reality, domestic politics, and human nature on a merry-go-round and gives them a raw, honest, examinatory spin. Keyes’ songwriting provides a surreal lens for the everyday grind— “a bit of cheek when everything else seems white-knuckled”. Playful and with an edge of ruggedness, ‘The Age of Realism’ takes on qualities similar to that of James Mercer of The Shins meets David Bowie. Collaborators on this album include Minneapolis’ Al Church, Joe Silbershmidt, Bad Posture Club, Leah Monson, Rachel Holm, and Keyes’ young daughter Wellan.
